Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association (CPPDA)
Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association (CPPDA)
The first positive psychology center in Taiwan was established in the Department of Psychology of Kaohsiung Medical University in 2014. The first director of the center was Professor Kun-Yuan Zhong, who was succeeded by the current director Professor Xiang-Yi Wu. The center is divided into four groups: administration, teaching, research and promotion, the vision is to help ourselves, others and the community to move towards happiness and fulfillment through positive psychology. Since the establishment of the Positive Psychology Center, the Consensus Camp has been held every year, hoping to gather strength to promote positive psychology and invite more people who are interested in this area.
After many years of establishment, the first Positive Psychology Summit Forum was finally held in 2021, and experts from the academic and industrial circles in the field of positive psychology were invited to participate in this grand event. During the preparatory period, director Xiang-Yi Wu, Wei-Ting Chen, Pei-Xiong Lin and Meng-Yin Chen served as members of the preparatory team, and jointly assisted in planning the establishment of the Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association. The association was successfully found on May 29th, 2022.
Positive Psychology was called by Martin E. P. Seligman, the father of the modern positive psychology movement, as a new field of psychology and proposed to move towards the five elements of happiness (PERMA) – Positive Emotion, Engagement, Positive Relationships, Meanings and Accomplishment, the goal is to select and expand the connotation of the five elements to make personal life happy and flourish. Positive psychology believes that positive subjective experience, positive personal traits and positive education are expected to improve the quality of human life.
In order to promote the concept of positive psychology, the Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association is committed to integrating the Chinese cultural virtues-benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness, and to develop localized positive psychology research and practice, in order to be more in line with the Chinese cultural connotation. The Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association will promote indigenized research and practice in three areas:
Research and practice of “Happy Life” is to examine how people “enjoy life”, understand what is the best experience and positive emotions in life (such as relationships, hobbies, interests, entertainment, etc.).
Research and practice of ” Good Life” is to examine how people “engage in life” and understand the benefits of immersion, ecstasy, and flow that people experience when they are engaged positively in their primary activities.
Research and practice of “meaningful Life” is to examine how people explore meaningful lives, or “life belonging,” discussing how people learn from something larger and more enduring than the individual (e.g., nature, social groups, organizations, spirituality, etc.) to participate in and contribute to a belief system to obtain happiness, belonging, meaning, and purpose.
The Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association will be committed to transforming indigenized positive psychology research into practical courses. Therefore, the Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association is a provider of professional positive psychology courses and the most representative positive psychology in Taiwan. To promote the concept of psychology, it has high-quality teachers and training systems. The research and development of the training courses are all scientifically verified. The team adheres to the principle of having our course developed through evidence-based research to check the quality and effect of the courses.
In order to promote the concept of indigenized positive psychology, the Chinese Positive Psychology Association will actively cooperate with industry, government and academia to promote human resource management and development with positive psychology as the core to strengthen the psychological quality of personnel. In order to improve the international competitiveness of domestic talents, and to promote the efficiency of human resources, promote the excellence and innovation of industrial development, and create a happy and fulfilling life together, it is hoped that this combination of Chinese cultural connotations and modern scientific methods can help the public improve their mental health and well-being, and bring to a healthier, happier, and more prosperous society.
【A Message from the First Chairman】
First of all, I would like to thank all the members for their advanced support. I was elected as the first chairman of the Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association. In particular, we are grateful for the establishment of the Positive Psychology Center at Kaohsiung Medical University in 2014. The first director Kun-Yuan Zhong and the current director Xiang-Yi Wu started leading the promotion of positive psychology and this movement has also called for the participation of many professionals in various fields. Since then, the seeds have grown from deep roots and grown stronger. Last year, the first Summit Forum of Positive Psychology Center was held. After going up to the next level, we continued to embark on the road of preparing for the Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association. Thanks to Dr. Xiang-Yi Wu, Mr. Wei-Ting Chen and Mr. Pei-Xiong Lin who served as members of the preparatory team during the preparation period, and jointly assisted the Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association in planning, and finally it was successfully established on May 29, 2022.
The relationship with positive psychology also echoes my growth and understanding in the professional process. I used to be a public schoolteacher and stepped into the field of psychotherapy because of my interest in psychological counseling. Working from the medical system with heavy pathological diagnosis to community counseling, from the training of traditional psychoanalysis to the study of post-modern psychology, I have been engaged in psychological counseling practice for more than 20 years and obtained many professional licenses of counseling psychologist in the United States and Taiwan. Although I enjoy working in this helping profession, after observing many clients suffering from severe mental illness, I think that if preventive education could be intervened at an early stage, it could prevent serious disease progression. Therefore, following the calling from my heart, I began to devote myself to psychological education, and found that positive psychology is the most suitable remedy. It has both academic foundation and approachable practical methods, and is convenient to promote and advocate. I am thankful for the opportunities of association with Positive Psychology Center and have met a group of like-minded professionals who are committed to promoting the mental health and well-being of the public. I hope that it is our common mission to improve people’s psychological quality through positive psychology education, and then move towards social happiness and consummation.
The Chinese Positive Psychology Development Association will be committed to integrating the Chinese cultural virtues-benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness, and transforming the research of indigenized positive psychology into practical courses, in order to be more in line with the cultural connotation of the Chinese. Therefore, the association is a provider of professional positive psychology courses, and it is also the most representative institution for promoting positive psychology concepts in Taiwan. The communication direction of platforms such as teaching information, industry-organization-research cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship, and international cooperation, and your expectations and suggestions for the association will become our strength to promote the association in the future.
Finally, I would like to thank you again for your support. I am honored to serve as the first chairman of the board. I feel that there will be a long way to go. In the next three years, I will fulfill the responsibility of the chairman and make every effort to promote the business of the association and serve all members. The association also needs your long-term support and participation, and help to introduce more friends from academia and industry to join. I also hope that you will not hesitate to provide any suggestions to make the service quality of the team more refined, and work together for the promotion of positive psychology.
